Sylvester J. Pussycat, Jr., or simply Sylvester Junior (he is also referred to as "Spoiled Brat"), is the son of Sylvester the cat. Junior first appeared in the 1949 short Pop 'im Pop, directed by Robert McKimson and eventually appeared in a total of 11 shorts in the Golden age. His voice was provided by Mel Blanc until his death in 1989, and later by Joe Alaskey.
Physically, Junior is basically a miniature version of his father, having a large head in proportion to a small body. Junior has been noted saying that he is three and a half years old.
Junior's personality reflected a degree of respect for his father, though often, when Sylvester did something embarrassing or humiliating, Junior would (melodramatically) often profess feeling ashamed or embarrassed by his father's behavior (sometimes donning a paper bag over his head) or sadly saying "Oh Father..."

Often, Sylvester and Junior's shorts would feature Sylvester trying to capture Hippety Hopper, a baby kangaroo, to prove a point to his son. Each attempt at capture, of course, failed miserably, owing to Sylvester's invariably mistaking the kangaroo for a "giant mouse", and as such being taken completely by surprise by the kangaroo's athletic prowess, with Sylvester losing every fight, often in spectacularly humiliating fashion. In one particular ship based short Junior was able to outdo his father by capturing Hippety, playing on Hippety's playful nature. Though Tweet Dreams was the only pairing of Junior and Tweety in the Looney Tunes shorts, it was not a direct one; Junior basically served as a flashback image.
After the original Looney Tunes shorts, Junior would show up sporadically in later years. In the 1990s animated series Sylvester and Tweety Mysteries, Sylvester has a flashback to his childhood in the episode "A Mynah Problem"; in the flashback sequence, as with Tweet Dreams, Sylvester resembled his son physically. He also appears in Space Jam. He is seen in one of the "Mysterious Phenomenon of the Unexplained" shorts of the Stranger Than Fiction Looney Tunes web shorts compilation DVD alongside his father on a camping trip interrupted by Bigfoot.

To emphasize the lisp, as with Daffy's catchphrase "You're desthpicable", Sylvester's trademark exclamation is "Sufferin' succotash!", which is said to be a minced oath of "Suffering Savior". (Daffy also says "Sufferin' succotash!" from time to time.)
Prior to Sylvester's appearance in the cartoons, Blanc voiced a character named Sylvester on The Judy Canova Show using the voice that would eventually become associated with the cat.
Sylvester shows a lot of pride in himself, and never gives up. Despite (or perhaps because of) his pride and persistence, Sylvester is, with rare exceptions, placed squarely on the "loser" side of the Looney Tunes winner/loser hierarchy. His character is basically that of Wile E. Coyote while chasing mice or birds.

(One cartoon episode The Wild Chase paired Sylvester and Wile E. Coyote against the Road Runner and Speedy Gonzales. In the end, both Sylvester and Wile E. fail as usual.) He shows a different character when paired with Porky Pig in explorations of spooky places, in which he doesn't speak as a scaredy cat. (In these cartoons, he basically plays the terrified Costello to Porky's oblivious Abbott.) He also appears in a handful of cartoons with Elmer Fudd, most notably in a series of cartoons underwritten by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation extolling the American economic system.
Perhaps Sylvester's most developed role is in a series of Robert McKimson-directed shorts, in which the character is a hapless mouse-catching instructor to his dubious son, Sylvester Junior, with the "mouse" being a powerful baby kangaroo which he constantly mistakes for a "king-size mouse". His alternately confident and bewildered episodes bring his son to shame, while Sylvester himself is reduced to nervous breakdowns.

Sylvester J. Pussycat, Sr., also known as Puddy Tat (as in "I tawt I taw a puddy tat" and "bad ol' puddy tat", two sentences often repeated by his arch-nemesis Tweety Bird), gringo pussy-gato/Señor Pussycat (a sobriquet attached by another antagonist, Speedy Gonzales), Sylvester the Cat or simply Sylvester, is a fictional character, a three-time Academy Award-winning anthropomorphic Tuxedo cat in the Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies repertory, often chasing Tweety Bird, Speedy Gonzales, or Hippety Hopper. The name "Sylvester" is a play on Felis silvestris, the scientific name for the wild cat species (domestic cats like Sylvester, though, are actually Felis catus). The character debuted in Friz Freleng's Life With Feathers (1945). Freleng's 1947 cartoon Tweetie Pie was the first pairing of Tweety with Sylvester, and the Bob Clampett-directed Kitty Kornered (1946) was Sylvester's first pairing with Porky Pig. Sylvester appeared in 103 cartoons in the golden age.

Sylvester was #33 on TV Guide's list of top 50 best cartoon characters, together with Tweety.
Sylvester's trademark is his sloppy and yet stridulating lisp. In his autobiography, That's Not All Folks!, voice actor Mel Blanc stated that Sylvester's voice is based on that of Daffy Duck, plus the even-more-slobbery lisp, and minus the post-production speed-up that was done with Daffy's. Conventional wisdom is that Daffy's lisp, and hence also Sylvester's, were based on the lisp of producer Leon Schlesinger. However, Blanc made no such claim. He said that Daffy's lisp was based on him having a long beak, and that he borrowed the voice for Sylvester. He also pointed out that, minus the lisp, Sylvester's voice was fairly close to his own (a claim that his son Noel Blanc has confirmed). In addition, director Bob Clampett, in a 1970 Funnyworld interview, agreed with Blanc's account concerning Schlesinger.

J. Sylvester Pussycat, Sr.. or Sylvester (the Cat) is a cartoon character in the series and Merrie Melodies Looney Tunes from Warner Bros. production .. Sylvester uses the name adapted from the felis silvestris. Sylvester described a black cat and white-owned Granny. Sylvester Granny always maintained. Target is targeted Sylvester Tweety, Speedy Gonzales and Hippety Hopper. Sylvester sometimes in cooperation with Wile E. Coyote Speedy Gonzales when capturing fast race in the race between Speedy Gonzales and Road Runner. This character is sometimes hard in the task of capturing birds or mice. This character was created by Friz Freleng.
Hop, Look and Listen (1948) was the first of many cartoons in which director Robert McKimson paired him with Hippety Hopper, a baby kangaroo whom Sylvester repeatedly mistook for a giant mouse. Many of these cartoons also featured Sylvester Jr., hiding his face in a paper bag in shame over the fact that his father couldn't defeat a mouse. In 1955, Freleng began to play him against Speedy Gonzales, the fastest mouse in all Mexico. Chuck Jones occasionally co-starred him with Porky Pig. In the Jones version, Porky would unknowingly enter a dangerous situation, but Sylvester, cast as Porky's pet and therefore unable to speak, was powerless to warn him.
Sylvester's best-known role, by far, was as the foil of Tweety Bird, an innocent-looking little imp who delighted in visiting mayhem on any "puddy tat" unwise enough to antagonize him. The Freleng-directed "Tweety & Sylvester" series ran from 1947-64, garnering two Oscars and a third nomination. Other Oscar material Sylvester appeared in include three nominees and a winner in which he played opposite Speedy Gonzales. And aside from his first appearance, he was in one nominated film without a "name" co-star, Mouse & Garden (1960), directed by Freleng. His final appearance in a theatrical cartoon was as a supporting character to Speedy, in Cats & Bruises (1965). Sylvester first appeared in the Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies comic book in 1948, as a foil for Porky. Later that year, a "Tweety & Sylvester" series was added to that title, and from then on, one was seldom seen in comics without the other. In 1952, the pair got their own comic, which continued to be published until 1984.
It is his association with Tweety to which Sylvester owes his star status in modern cartoons, as well, Sylvester & Tweety Mysteries, which, starting in 1995, aired on the Warner Bros. television channel, is based on the pair's long-running and highly popular synergy. In 1998, they appeared together on a U.S. postage stamp. But those old cartoons with Speedy, Porky and Hippety Hopper, and with Sylvester by himself, still air on TV. So it will be a long time before the non-Tweety portion of his career is completely forgotten.
